In writing so much about HBO’s epic “Game of Thrones” recently, I’m realizing once again how much I love everything about George R.R. Martin’s complex world and characters (I read the books a couple years ago, and had to put them away so as not to obsess and reread them all the time). Tyrion, Arya, Jon Snow, Brienne and Dany — of course Dany!

For all of our fellow “Game Of Thrones” fans, that April 1 season two premiere date just can’t come soon enough. What is going to happen in Westeros?!? Which beloved characters will live and die this time around?!? And while those of us who’ve read the books know a few answers to those questions, you never know when we’ll get thrown a curveball.

First up was adorable and enthusiastic young actress Emilia Clarke, who plays one of the most dynamic and unknowingly dangerous characters in the series, Daenerys Targaryen (pronounced Dan-AIR-ee-us Tar-GAR-ee-en). Without giving away too much, Dany (as she is commonly called) is one of many characters who are involved in a few racy scenes, and given the fact that her character is still a teenager when she engages in those racy activities, we asked Clarke if she had any reservations about portraying those aspects of her character.

Previously we met Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow. Next up is series favourite Emilia Clarke. After only a handful of minor television roles, Emilia found herself playing a lead role in one of HBO’s most expensive productions to date. It would later earn her an EWwy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama. As Daenerys Targaryen, Emilia plays only one of two surviving children of the Mad King Aerys II. Daenerys was born in exile after Robert’s Rebellion overthrew her father. Raised in the Free Cities across the Narrow Sea by her cruel brother Viserys (Harry Lloyd), Daenerys is a timid girl who is sold to wife by her brother King to the Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) in exchange for an army.

Emilia is a young actress, who recently graduated from the famous London Drama Centre. Her first wide-screen appearance was in the TV-movie Triassic Attack (2010), and she also debuted in TV in one episode of the Doctors.

Her greatest opportunity came when she was cast in Game of Thrones as the youngest living Targaryen, right after Tamzin Merchant left the same role. I believe we can say that she does her job really well.

Emilia kindly and enthusiastically answered our questions.

Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen began Game of Thrones a shy, silver-haired beauty living under the thumb of her brother and then the Dothraki warlord he married her off to, Kahl Drogo. But as the season progressed, she turned into Drogo’s confidante and a horse-heart-eating khaleesi, well on her way to being the character beloved by fans of the books. On the heels of the shocking penultimate episode, we spoke to the 24-year-old Clarke about going straight from drama school in London to a hit show on HBO, the rape scene that wasn’t really in the book, and how that heart tasted.

Sweet, beautiful and incredibly sympathetic, Emilia talks about how significant Game of Thrones is for her. She plays one of the most popular characters, Danaerys, the heir of an ancient line, Mother of Dragons, who wants to occupy the throne of Westeros.

What did you think when you read the script for the first time? Did the sex scenes scare you?
Yes, totally. I was on vacation with my family when I started to read the script and I told myself: Oh my God!, but I had read the books, I know what I had to do and it was a collaborative process, Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) and I discussed what we were going to do and what we thought was good. And nine out of ten times the integrity of the character wines because I was a bit scared, but the group at HBO behaved well, they helped things.
